Dain-App is a video processing desktop application that uses artificial intelligence to artificially increase the frame rate of videos, GIFs, and animations through a process called frame interpolation. Developed by GRisk, it functions as a user-friendly graphical interface (GUI) built on top of an open-source academic algorithm called DAIN (Depth-Aware Video Frame INterpolation).
The software can smooth out choppy videos, turn 24 FPS or 30 FPS footage into fluid 60 FPS (or higher), and generate artificial slow-motion effects by inserting AI-generated “in-between” frames. How It Works
Traditional frame interpolation techniques rely on “optical flow,” which often creates blurry distortions when objects overlap. Dain-App solves this by using a depth-aware algorithm.
Depth Detection: The AI maps the 3D depth of a 2D scene to distinguish the foreground from the background.
Occlusion Handling: When one object passes behind another, the app understands which object is closer and prioritizes it, preventing visual tearing and messy artifacts.
Pixel Generation: It analyzes two sequential frames, calculates the trajectory of pixels, and draws an entirely new frame from scratch to bridge the gap. Common Use Cases
