openHAB Designer was an Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE) used to modify configuration files for the openHAB home automation platform. Current Status: Officially Deprecated
If you are setting up or managing a modern smart home system, openHAB Designer is deprecated and cannot be used anymore. It was built for openHAB 1.x configurations and is incompatible with modern releases like openHAB 3 and openHAB 4. Modern Alternatives
The development workflow has evolved to use modern tools depending on how you prefer to manage your configuration:
The Built-In MainUI Pages Designer: For web-based management, modern versions of openHAB offer a powerful, browser-based graphical user interface. Under Settings > Pages, you can use a point-and-click openHAB UI Design View to lay out widgets, floor plans, and system dashboards without writing file syntax.
Visual Studio Code Extension: If you prefer text-based management (.items, .rules, .sitemaps files), the old designer has been fully replaced by the openHAB VS Code Extension. What the Old Designer Did User Interface Design Overview – openHAB
